H2.1 Influence of trends in society on design and production by Timmy
DEFENITION:
social, global,political,economic and enviromental issues influence peoples perceptions of how they see the world and what they consider important. These issues in turn influence design and production. Design trends change as society changes.
THERE ARE FIVE MAIN ISSUES THEY AFFECT TRENDS
Social:
Patriotism: this are peoples attitude towards there society and what they beleive about there society.
Hedonism: This is how people view themselves and what there priorities are.
Multiculturalism: This is the theory that it is beneficial to a society to maintain more than one culture within its structure> especially in australia as there are many cultures in it.
Social Class: a persons socio economic status is determined by the interaction of there social and ecomomic situations.
Global issues:
Global issues are those that have worldwide significance. the world economy has undergone radical changes during the last quater of a century and trends have changed due to this as the global community gets smaller the range of things for designers grows larger.

•The Centre for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSES) is part of the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at the Australian National University
•CSES invented a thin crystalline silicon solar cell technique called Epilift. In this process a thin layer of silicon (50 microns thick) is grown on a conventional silicon wafer. The grown layer is peeled off and converted into a solar cell.
•Over the next year Origin Energy will make a decision about commercialisation of the technology. Recently Origin Energy was awarded
$1 million by the Australian Greenhouse Office (RECP6) towards the cost of building a pilot plant.

Australian based, with a focus on international markets, their investment reach is global, with portfolio companies having their headquarters in the USA, Germany and China as well as in Australia.

•Hypersonic aerodynamics has been a major research activity at The University of Queensland over the last 20 years. The researchers in this group have been active internationally and, during that period, have been involved in collaborative research programs with about 20 universities and research organisations around the world.

The Permo-Drive system harnesses the previously wasted braking energy of a vehicle, stores this energy and is able to release it back into the drive shaft as required. For example, a truck going down a hill or braking can store that energy for use at a later time. If the truck needs to accelerate or go up a hill, or through a gear change, the Permo-Drive system can be automatically activated to deliver additional torque to the drive shaft during periods of peak engine demand.
•Reduction in exhaust, carbon and noxious emissions.
•Reduction in engine exhaust braking noise.
•Reduction in brake dust pollutants.

•The development of co-operative research centres enables both government and private sponsorship organisations to develop design solutions in many varied areas especially those that are related to scientific technological advancement.
•University research centres also act independently and in co-operation with the CSIRO in many endeavours. For example, latest diet for well being on CSIRO web site.
Where do these trends lead ?
In wealthier countries trends of design in our society are related to capital investment strategies and the role of Co-operative research centres (CRCs). This aims to bring together isolated groups towards sharing limited resources of expertise and finance to achieve goals in a competitive timeframe.
